The MountOne & Astrographs were developed with Bambu Lab PLA-CF. Final testing and checks were performed with Bambu Lab PETG-CF. Parts were printed using E3D's A1 Series High Flow ObXidian 0.4mm Nozzle. I recommend PETG-CF for the MountOne and Astrographs.
If you hope to develop MountOne yourself, or would like to help support my further development of the MountOne, detailed drawings, datasheets, STEP files and more are available by downloading the MountOne CAD Packs & ordering MountOne Hardware Kits.
Each STL file is named with an x1, x2 ,x3 etc at the end to indicate the number of printed parts required.
You'll need.
- ~2kg of PETG-CF Black.
- ~1kg of PETG-CF Red.
Specific printing recommendations for each part is provided below. Some parts will be grouped together.
Calibration
Some parts require calibration before printing. Please refer to the MountOne Calibration Documentation for details.
Seams.
Several of the parts have features modelled in specifically for the placement of seams. These features are typically on faces where there is contact with bearings. These will be highlighted below.
M1-BEARING-CAP-LARGE-72.XXx2.stl
There is a recess in the cap for the seam. Make sure to use it.
M1-DEC-72.XXx1.stl
The seams are positioned where they are for two reasons, firstly, function, seams cause abnormal geometries on surfaces and if there is to be contact, or similarly if you wish to avoid contact, placing a seam on a face where either is a likely outcome, it is best to put the seam somewhere where this is not an issue. Secondly, aesthetics, keep seams out of view, unless you like that sort of thing.
The internal bearing pocket has a feature for the seam.
M1-DRIVE-3GT-100T-55.XXx2.stl
This is the main output pulley. It will be subject to high torque. I advise increasing the perimeters / walls to 4 and the top & bottom layers to 6 for additional strength.
I highly recommend changing the Wall generator from Classic to Arachne for the pulleys. It helps massively with the teeth profiles by removing short extrusions. Enable this option in the advanced menu.
Two features for the seams. One for the bearing, and the other to keep the teeth free of artifacts.
M1-DRIVE-OUTPUT-55.XXx2.stl
Similarly to the above pulley, this part will be exposed to high torque, increase the perimeters / walls and top & bottom layers.
A seam feature.
M1-RA-72.XXx1.stl
I have positioned the external seam on the corner.
A similar seam for the bearing pocket.
M1-BEARING-SPACER-XXXX
- M1-BEARING-SPACER-INNERx2.stl
- M1-BEARING-SPACER-OUTERx2.stl
No need to worry about seams here. We do however, want these parts to print solid. There should be no need to set 100% infill, just ensure there are enough perimeters / walls.
M1-BEARING-SPACER-PULLEYSx12.stl
These little critters are to stop chaffing.
M1-COVER-HEXAXESx1.stl
Along with M1-COVERx1.stl these parts could be a multi-material print. However, given the excessive pooping of certain machines, and unless you have a toolchanger, I advise printing them separately. and then gluing them together. For the Greater Good.
M1-COVERx1.stl
Keep the seam at the back.
Glue in the logo parts.
M1-DCDCx1.stl
The is an adapter for the Waveshare 5v DC/DC Converter to be used in place of the Pololu one. Details are in the Astrograph Documentation.
M1-DRIVE-3GT-20T-60Tx8.stl
Another high-torque part. 4 perimeters / walls and 6 bottom & top layers please Ladies, Gentlemen, non-binaries, and people who really aren't quite sure yet.
I highly recommend changing the Wall generator from Classic to Arachne for the pulleys. It helps massively with the teeth profiles by removing short extrusions. Enable this option in the advanced menu.
Seams, two, both for teeth.
M1-DRIVE-BRACEx2.stl

- M1-DRIVE-IDLERx8.stl
- M1-DRIVE-TENSION-ABCx8.stl
- M1-DRIVE-TENSION-Dx2.stl
These are all the belt tensioning parts. I have set the seam to random as the parts are generally too small for the required geometry.
M1-DRIVE-MOTORx2.stl
M1-ELECTRONICSx1.stl
The seams are on the inner faces, purely for the aesthetics.
M1-TRIPOD-UNCx1.stl
This part is not required if you are using The Printed Equatorial Tripod.
If you do need this part,
- 0.6mm Nozzle.
- 0.3mm layers.
- 3 Walls / Perimeters.
- 6 Top / Bottom Layers.
- >20% Infill.
