About Us

Founded by Greg Holloway, a mechanical engineer with extensive experience in advanced motion systems, Hexaxes focuses on the development of innovative mechanical solutions. The platform serves both as a showcase for ongoing projects and as a means of supporting continued product development and engineering research. While Hexaxes operates as a commercial business, its core purpose is to enable the continued creation and refinement of high-precision mechanical systems.

Hexaxes specialises in machines and mechanisms that move in the X, Y, and Z axes. The name “Hexaxes” is a play on words — combining hex (six) and axes — referencing the six degrees of freedom in Cartesian space. It reflects a deep focus on motion control, kinematics, and precision engineering.

Hexaxes draws inspiration from the kinematic principles used in the E3D ToolChanger, a pioneering multi-tool 3D printing platform whose development was led by the company’s founder. These kinematic concepts form part of the engineering DNA behind Hexaxes’ work.

The Hexaxes logo itself is derived from the geometric principles of the coupling mechanism employed in that tool-changing system — a design that has since influenced a number of tool-changer mechanisms seen across the industry today.

In addition to product development, Hexaxes operates within the 3D printing industry as an engineering consultancy.

With over 12 years of experience in 3D printer development, manufacturing, and production, Hexaxes provides technical expertise to businesses seeking to design, refine, or bring advanced additive manufacturing systems to market. Services span concept development, mechanical architecture, motion systems, kinematics, and production-ready engineering.
