Hexaxes And Duet Automation.
Duet3D specialises in developing high-performance machine control electronics and firmware, providing innovative and reliable solutions to the Additive Manufacturing and wider automation industries.
Duet3D contacted Hexaxes in late January 2026 with a brief for an interactive technology demonstrator to showcase their new range of Duet Automation Control Modules. Part of the brief was that the demonstrator needed to be ready for display at their stand for MACH 2026 in April.

The project brief called for two motion systems stacked on top of one another, with a fixed centre rotating axis. Initially, several configurations were proposed, before narrowing down the selection to two.

Further discussions, and feasibility studies resulted in the final design; two H-Bot motion systems built back-to-back on 30x60 aluminium extrusions with a single rotating central axis.

To help with the interaction, a console with two screens, encoders and a keypad were also added into the design. The lower half features a display case, and contains the power systems and an e-stop.

Initial assembly, wiring, firmware, and testing happened at Hexaxes' workshop, with final testing, assembly and setup performed offsite by Duet3D.

It was a fun project to work on together, thanks for putting the mechanical design together in such a short time.
